Coffee has become as much of a franchise product in modern times as fast food. There could be many reasons why. Possibly because of the numerous executive-style coffee shops offering customers doughnuts and fancy sandwiches with their beverage. Perhaps it is the hours that people devote to their jobs in the modern age. Each one of us can give a different reason for liking coffee although we know that it has some bad side-effects. It is not good for the heart, we need to go to the loo a lot and our teeth are ruined because of stains. If we don't brush, we will probably end up with halitosis, which basically is a fancy word that simply means you've got bad breath. Westland dentist Fotolia_6993427_XS.jpg

Then you have people who smoke as well as drink loads of coffee. It is not a good combination and has resulted in staining. It is very common among the younger crowd. Drinking beverages like sodas can also cause discoloration to your teeth. Age and genetics are other factors.

Apart from that, there is tobacco chewing, which is proven to cause discoloration. The tar from the tobacco gets into our enamel and gives us the classic black-teeth look of coal miners. I am happy, though, that the dangers of tobacco are well known, the result being that many people are quitting.

Okay, let's talk a little more about sodas. Try to immerse a tooth into a cup of soda. You will see the soda destroy the tooth in only a few hours. If you ask me, I don't think for a minute that we have the willpower to stay away from these fizzy thirst-quenchers. It's a good thing we have straws. By using these, we are able to reduce the amount of soda that pass through our teeth. The result is less staining. The only problem is that I can't use them with steaming hot drinks, like my coffee and green tea.

If you are among the folks who do have stains on your teeth, you can get rid of them. I can remove them. Take a trip to my Westland dentist office and let me see the damage. I can then decide if we can get away with just cleaning your teeth or if we need to take them out…

Just kidding. We won't do that. The truth is that you can have Westland dental veneers. I highly recommend veneers because they are tough and durable, they are safe and they don't stain. How's that for a remedy?
