Westland Broken Dental Crown — Can It Be Fixed?
I hope you will visit me in my Westland dental office if you see that your dental crown has fractured or broken.
Crowns don't last forever. Crowns that I provide in my Westland dental crown clinic will stay with you a while. Maybe even up to 15 years. Possibly more. Possibly less.
There are some really strong crowns being manufactured in modern times. But they may need to be changed sooner than you expect if you fail to care for them in the right way. Grinding your teeth is a real culprit. Many folks do this during their sleep even if they have no idea they are doing it.
People with crown problems may also chew violently, or chew on ice.
Fracturing of a dental crown is likely that the porcelain has weakened. Or the ceramic portion of the dental crown. If you have gold or metal alloys, you are unlikely to see fractures on them because of their flexibility to the powerful forces exerted by your jaw muscles.
Because of this, metals like gold are great to act as supports for your crowns.
While effective, gold and metal are not that aesthetically pleasing. Therefore, we use porcelain along with metal on the crown. Even better is to give you a crown made entirely of ceramic. These types of crowns, though, are more breakable.
With porcelain dental crowns, no one will know them from your real teeth. Mainly because it is translucent and smooth. But it has difficulty with the amount of force put on them every time you chew or grind your teeth.
Also, porcelain's fragility makes it so that if you break one side of the crown, the damage will easily spread.
Broken porcelain crowns are not good. If you find your crown is cracked, you need to replace it with a new one. Broken crowns don't look good at all. Not only that, it is medically not advisable. You are exposing yourself to infection. If we do not remedy this right away, we may have more than crown problems. We may need to restore every single part of the tooth. And you may be forced to have a dental implant.
So, if you are in Westland and have a broken Westland dental crown, I will be happy to welcome you to my clinic and let us fix your problem.
