A Westland dental implant crown does the same thing as other crowns. It is designed to be installed on a tooth, which itself has to be primed to accommodate the crown. In our clinic, we have a slightly different process. That is, when putting a dental crown on an implant, we don't have to cut away any of your natural tooth. We only just put an abutment to join the pieces. You may hear this term in engineering circles, especially with bridges. In dentistry, it is what connects an implant and crown together. It is used instead of a prepared tooth and is pretty cylindrical in shape. Westland dentist Fotolia_7063199_XS.jpg

Putting in a Westland dental implant secures the jaw and stops the bones in your jaw from eroding away. You can pretty much see why this is done. The bone matter would probably die away.

Bone can also be affected when putting in bridges or dentures. During the process, broken or missing teeth must be replaced. And that means we have to say goodbye to bone cells that reside near the removed tooth's root.

We won't let you suffer this way when you get a Westland dental implant. Our implants fool your jaw into thinking there is a real tooth there. A cylindrical titanium root will be planted into the jaw bone. This helps to activate the bone matter. And after a few months, the bone cells will multiply and grab on to the thin grooves of the root and react as if the root was genuine.

Bridges and dentures are not obstacles to getting dental implants. If you've had dentures or a bridge for a long time, you are not excluded from also getting a dental implant. This is also true with a damaged jaw bone. We can still reinforce your jaw bone by grafting bone from somewhere else and then waiting for it to heal. We usually get fresh bone material from your hips or another area of your jaw.

After we reinforce your jaw bone, we put in the attachment. And, finally, the dental crown. Your new dental implant crown is like a prosthetic device that is unlikely to come out. Also, it will not damage your jaw bones, and will not make you look older than your age.
