The older people get, the more they worry. One concern is the possibility of contracting gum disease. Actually gum disease is very common. In fact, some records show that as much as 80 percent of the population are troubled by some sort of disease in their gums. Westland dentist Fotolia_2440036_XS.jpg

The two most prevalent forms of gum disease are gingivitis and periodontitis. Any one of them have been known to cause teeth loss. When you have these diseases, bacteria has gotten into your mouth. They go to town on the gums and bone of your jaw, which weakens the areas that support your teeth. Bleeding of the gums might occur.

The last thing you want to do is ignore treatment. This could lead to the gingivitis advancing into periodontitis. The longer you neglect it, plaque will start to move under the gums. The gums are then bombarded by toxins in the plaque. This causes irritation and inspire the gums to retaliate by becoming inflamed. What essentially is happening is the body is forced to defend against itself. Key parts of the jaw bone and related tissues, break down and are destroyed. Eventually, the gum and teeth separate and form ugly ravines.

You should get into the habit of using dental floss three times a day. Go for the waxed dental floss. Take it along with you when you leave home and you are ready to use it in a restaurant, diner, or friend's place.

Follow up the flossing with a good tooth brushing. You only need two minutes to brush your teeth and gums effectively. Work them quite hard as you brush all over. This method will get rid of the bacteria from between the crevices.

If you have a waterpik, use that as well. Ideally, you should use a waterpik that features a cannula — a syringe like device that discharges water right into your gums and teeth and between those hard-to-reach spaces. The fluid you should use includes warm water, some hydrogen peroxide and salt.

It is possible to treat gum disease. However, how well you respond to the treatment depends greatly on how well you get along with your dentist and if you are willing to have faith in his judgment. Make a request to your dentist to give you some periodontal treatment. And that's where the Westland gum disease treatment comes in. During a Westland gum disease treatment, the Westland dentist will carefully clean the root surfaces. By doing this, the dentist can clean those cracks and crevices of plaque and tartar. It is also effective in cleansing the tooth root of toxins.
