Practice good oral hygiene. Or you might find gum disease on your doorstep. I'm sure your mother told you that all the time when you were growing up. But don't be ashamed if you have gum disease. A lot of people get it. I guess that means that a lot of us don't listen to our mothers. Westland dentist Fotolia_6094158_XS.jpg

Whatever the case may be, be alert for gum disease and not delay treatment if you see it. It is caused by bacteria that eats away at and injures the undergirding of your teeth. A bloody mouth — because of your gums — is a sign of gum disease. And under the surface, your jaw is probably being damaged. What's worse, the bacteria can spread beyond your mouth.

One of the things that triggers gingivitis (mild gum disease) is bad oral hygiene as well as a whole host of other factors, including puberty and systemic diseases. Visiting a professional dentist can take care of it in company with new oral hygiene habits at home. If you've got gingivitis and you don't do anything about it, it will likely turn into periodontitis.

That means you absolutely need to take care of the gingivitis. The Westland dentist will do scaling or root planing, also known as periodontal therapy, which is a distinctive cleaning procedure. In the course of this cleaning, the dentist will scrub your tooth roots clean and take off all the accumulated plaque and get all the bacteria off the root.

After the completion of the periodontal therapy, that will be all you need to have the dentist do. But for the sake of your gums, you will have to build some new habits.

It will be all up to you. You will have to regularly and properly brush your teeth and floss and use some hydrogen peroxide and saltwater in between your teeth through a cannula. And then you can also use the pik to scrape your teeth. Undertaking this kind of hygiene isn't just required, it is urgent.
